January 19, 2024 — The next term of the National Imaging Informatics Course (NIIC) will be held online March 4 – 8, 2024. NIIC is made possible through a partnership between the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the Digital Pathology Association (DPA) and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM). RSNA sponsors the radiology track of the course.

NIIC is an accelerated, week-long online experience for imaging informaticists seeking to better leverage their expertise towards a broader, more holistic engagement within the field.

“If you want to be equipped with the inside track on what’s happening with clinical decision support, artificial intelligence, standards, regulatory frameworks and entrepreneurship, this is the course for you,” said Nabile M. Safdar, M.D., who developed the course along with Tessa S. Cook, M.D., Ph.D., and Katherine Andriole, Ph.D.

NIIC is the first course of its kind to delve into comprehensive fundamental principles in today’s real-world ecosystem of imaging informatics to create enduring engagement and innovation within the field.

The course offers imaging informatics education to trainees, practicing radiologists and allied professionals around the world and covers a range of topics from clinical workflow, PACS and standards to data science, algorithms and the business of informatics.

The course format consists of live online lectures, online small group discussions and content available on demand. There are pre- and post-course assessments and homework assignments throughout the term.

Participants develop a well-rounded understanding of the field, demystify business cases and become more confident, effective and valuable in the fast-changing medical and healthcare fields.

While designed with fourth-year radiology residents in mind, the course will benefit anyone looking to increase their skillset within the field, including students, healthcare professionals at all levels, and industry partners.

The accelerated program is designed to create new value for beginning, mid-level and senior professionals through developing practical knowledge, skills and expanding their professional acumen.

“The training programs that enroll their residents in this course are giving them a competitive advantage as they go to the next stage in their careers,” Dr. Safdar said.

Successful participants receive a certificate and qualify for up to 20 hours of SIIM IIP Credits for ABII Certification and Recertification.

Early registration deadline is February 8. For more information, visit https://siim.org/learning-events/learning/niic/ or contact [email protected]
