In addition to new imaging modality introductions, GE will share developments in Edison ecosystem

October 18, 2019 — At the 2019 annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA 2019), Dec. 1-6 in Chicago, GE Healthcare will share its vision for the future of healthcare and the value it brings in delivering outcomes across the health ecosystem.

 The healthcare industry produces massive amounts of data, and it is extremely difficult to bring this data together, convert it into meaningful insights and bring those insights to the point of care. At RSNA, GE Healthcare will share more about growing the Edison artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem to meet these challenges – ultimately to help unearth timely insights that improve patient outcomes, reduce waste and inefficiencies, and eliminate costly and harmful errors.

Below are some of the top technologies that will be on display.

CT 

The Revolution Apex represents the next generation of intelligent computed tomography (CT) scanners in the GE Revolution family, according to the company. Offering a new image chain, Revolution Apex introduces GE Healthcare’s new Quantix 160 X-ray tube as well as the first U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k)-cleared deep learning-based CT image reconstruction technology to generate TrueFidelity images. Compared to current iterative reconstruction technology, TrueFidelity CT Images can elevate every image with impressive image quality performance, and preferred image sharpness and noise texture, without compromising dose performance.

 

Breast Imaging 

Performed as a follow-up to inconclusive mammography and ultrasound, SenoBright HD Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography (CESM) from GE Healthcare highlights areas of unusual blood flow patterns in a simple and quick procedure. CESM offers a high level of confidence for clinicians and patients, as it delivers clear breast image quality. The high specificity of SenoBright HD can help reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies and surgeries. 

 

MRI

GE Healthcare’s AIR Technology family of workflow applications automates the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan process to drive consistency and image quality. The Signa WorksAIR Technology Edition brings new applications along with enhancements to existing applications, with the goal of empowering any technologist to deliver images with high clarity, including AIRx, AIR Touch and AIR Recon. 

 

Surgery 

During vascular or cardiac procedures, mobile C-arm technicians often move back and forth between the C-arm and workstation to access certain features or recall prior images. While these movements are necessary, they can disrupt surgical flow and cause inefficiencies and blocked views of the images during procedures. At RSNA 2019, GE Healthcare will introduce OEC Touch, a completely new control panel designed to improve efficiency for the C-arm technician and eliminate the need to move to a separate workstation. 

 

X-ray 

GE Healthcare’s Critical Care Suite is a collection of AI algorithms embedded on a mobile X-ray device. Recently cleared by the FDA, Critical Care Suite helps radiologists prioritize critical cases with a suspected pneumothorax – a type of collapsed lung – by immediately flagging critical cases to radiologists for triage, which could drastically cut the average review time from up to eight hours. 

 

Ultrasound 

The Logiq E10 ultrasound system integrates AI, advanced tools and enhanced workflow capabilities to enable clinicians to scan, diagnose and treat a wide range of patients across a broad spectrum of conditions. One of its newest applications, Breast Assistant, powered by Koios DS, automatically provides an AI-based quantitative risk assessment that aligns to a BI-RADS (Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System) category.
