American Society of Radiologic Technologists asks people to show their support via social media

U.S. Recognizes Radiologic Technologists Nov. 5-11

November 6, 2017 — During National Radiologic Technology Week (NRTW) every November, hospitals, healthcare centers and clinics recognize radiologic technologists – the medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations and administer radiation therapy treatments. Educated in anatomy, radiologic science equipment protocols and radiation protection measures, radiologic technologists play an important role in patient care and safety.

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists established NRTW to recognize the vital work of radiologic technologists and the important role they play in health care. NRTW takes place every November to honor German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen’s discovery of the X-ray on Nov. 8, 1895.

This year, with the celebration slated for Nov. 5-11, ASRT designed five popular profile photo frames for Facebook using the theme “Positioning to Save Lives.” By sharing the frames, radiologic technologists and others who support the profession can express their pride through social media and bring national awareness to medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals. The Society is using the hashtag #NRTW17 to track the impact of the social media activity across multiple platforms.

“Radiologic technologists should be acknowledged for their indispensable role in healthcare and patient safety,” said Sal Martino, Ed. D., R.T, FASRT, FASAE, CAE, CEO and executive director, ASRT. “Americans should know that the personnel who perform their medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures are educated professionals dedicated to providing exceptional and often life-saving care.”
