Software will replace analog equipment for digital radiography, mammography, and provide support for electronic health records

Novarad, NovaPACS, NovaRIS, Watts Healthcare Corp., Los Angeles

August 22, 2016 — Watts Healthcare Corp. (WHCC), one of the largest healthcare providers in southern California, selected Novarad’s picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and radiology information system (RIS) for installation in its radiology department. WHCC is a federally-qualified community health center with over 96,000 patient encounters specializing in primary care services to residents of the South Los Angeles area.

Funded in part by the Avon and Ahmanson Foundation’s grant awards, “the digital imaging technology will enhance diagnosis for prompt treatment and preventive health,” said James Johnson, radiology manager at Watts Healthcare. “We are truly grateful for the support in strengthening our radiology programs.”

The new digital imaging technology replaces the antiquated analog equipment with PACS/RIS, digital radiography (DR) system and a digital mammography (DM) unit. The PACS/RIS will shadow the electronic health record (EHR) Care Coordination Medical Record (CCMR) component with tracking, reporting and analyzing patient data, further improving the exam readings and report turnaround.

In 2015, over 8,700 critical exams, screenings and diagnostic services were provided to low-income residents of South Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, which included mammograms, ultrasounds and X-rays. The RIS/PACS will allow the health center to provide patients with faster, more accurate screenings, and to improve quality of care and health outcomes.
