Provides intuitive data management for in-hospital imaging systems to increase transparency and economic efficiency

Siemens, Teamplay, Protocols, radiation dose monitoring, RSNA 2015

December 22, 2015 — At the 101st Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), Siemens displayed new offerings for teamplay, a cloud-based network that helps link hospitals and healthcare experts, enabling them to exchange data and pool their knowledge. teamplay gives customers the power to analyze, understand, optimize and collaborate with healthcare professionals around the world. The new teamplay Protocols provides an extra step helping customers implement improvements for the longer term.

teamplay’s Protocols offering enables the user to centrally view, compare and comment on protocols from selected Siemens computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) devices. Protocols can be distributed to compatible modalities, enabling easy standardization of established protocols for subsequent scans of the same type, whilst a version history for each protocol provides a reassuring sense of control over imaging standards across the fleet.

Another critical parameter in radiology departments is the volume of ionizing radiation required to treat a particular patient; teamplay’s Dose function enables monitoring of patient radiation dose in a simple and accessible way. In addition to generating a precise listing of the applied doses, users can compare current values against institutional and national reference values, as well as benchmarking dose performance against other facilities from similar examinations. teamplay Dose also provides a patient-centric view and dose values normalized by patient size. The program features the ability to perform image call-up using picture archiving and communication system (PACS) Web-viewers, allowing appropriateness of delivered doses to be balanced against image quality.

The teamplay Usage function provides an overview of the performance data from imaging modalities such as CT or MRI, including a daily usage report. The Usage function also records the number of examinations per hour, the time and nature of the examination, total capacity utilization for the device, and the parties providing treatment, as well as the time required to move from one patient to the next. This knowledge helps optimize hospital work sequences and employee workloads, cut patient waiting times and reduce costs.
