November 29, 2015 — lifeIMAGE announced the launch of the first in a series of product releases based on the fourth generation of its medical image exchange platform. The new platform further promotes interoperability through standards-based exchange with other relevant and authorized applications, and enables healthcare enterprises to develop workflows for exchanging exams with patients using the same electronic image sharing system utilized by clinicians and facilities. lifeIMAGE will demonstrate the new platform at the Radiological Society of North America’s (RSNA) 101st scientific assembly and annual meeting, Nov. 29 – Dec. 4 in Chicago.
Patients say one of the key factors in choosing a radiology provider is the same-day delivery of imaging results. According to The Advisory Board Company’s 2015 Imaging Consumer Preferences Survey, that preference ranked just second among patient priorities behind out-of-pocket costs. lifeIMAGE 4.0 includes a fully integrated workflow for sharing exams with patients through the RSNA Image Share network. This capability leverages the IHE Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing for Imaging (XDS-I) standard so disparate facilities can register images and reports for patients to claim. Patients can access exams through lifeIMAGE or any standards-based personal health record (PHR) application, or images can be embedded in patient portals deployed by health systems.
The updated platform also allows radiologists and other care providers to engage patients directly to provide consultations or secondary interpretations, or to ensure their prior imaging history is available to the broader care team before an appointment. It provides advanced workflow and configurability for incorporating exams into a healthcare organization’s information systems such as the picture archiving and communications system (PACS), vendor-neutral archive (VNA) and electronic medical record (EMR).
