Companies will leverage strengths in primary imaging, digital radiography, ultrasound and healthcare IT

October 2, 2015 — Konica Minolta has completed acquisition of Viztek LLC to enhance Konica Minolta’s capabilities to offer comprehensive, end-to-end healthcare IT solutions from image acquisition to physician diagnosis. It enhances its healthcare IT software solutions to better meet today’s market need for image sharing and viewing, the vendor said.

Viztek is a leading provider of complete digital software and hardware imaging solutions. Most recently, Viztek introduced its Exa platform for PACS, RIS and EHR systems, offering access to images and information for radiologists and physicians, regardless of location, to support care delivery. Additionally the company has seen record sales for digital radiography in 2015, with new advancements in wireless technology along with dose efficient software for pediatrics.

Konica Minolta is a $9 billion global company with a rapidly growing presence in the global healthcare market. It has an established strength in primary imaging areas of digital radiography, ultrasound, healthcare IT and services. Primary imaging accounts for up to 70 percent of all images acquired, and is relied upon for initial diagnosis and to assess the need for advanced imaging. With today’s focus on value-based care, healthcare needs primary imaging solutions to provide economic value, clinical confidence and worry free operation, the vendor said.

“The acquisition of Viztek will strengthen our healthcare IT solutions and broaden our primary imaging solutions portfolio so that in turn we can enable our customers across all market segments to better meet the evolving healthcare requirements for Meaningful Use and value-based care,” said David Widmann, president and CEO, Konica Minolta Medical Imaging, the Americas. “As we aim to significantly grow our business, we can now be further assured that we are responding to customers’ needs with healthcare solutions offered and supported by a single company.”

Viztek said it has a strong presence and customer loyalty complements Konica Minolta’s customer base and healthcare solutions lineup across hospitals, outpatient clinics, imaging centers and teleradiology. As part of the acquisition, 20/20 Imaging LLC, the partner company of Viztek, will also become an autonomous subsidiary of Konica Minolta. Together, with an expanded product line-up, Konica Minolta, Viztek and 20/20 Imaging will continue to focus on the design and delivery of solutions that best meet healthcare’s needs.

“With the established footprint of Konica Minolta, Viztek can now rapidly expand by providing our Exa platform and our comprehensive range of proven digital imaging software to a much greater install base, including – for the first time – sites outside the U.S.A.,” said Josip Cermin, president, Viztek. “At Viztek our development has been nimble and our products truly innovative, and now a much larger segment of healthcare will have access to our current and future developments.”

Konica Minolta Medical Imaging is headquartered in Wayne, N.J., Viztek is based in Garner, N.C.
