July 1, 2015 - MRI Interventions Inc. announced that the neurological surgical team at University of Kansas Medical Center performed the first stereotactic laser ablation of the hippocampus (SLAH) procedure in their magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suite, utilizing the ClearPoint Neuro Navigation System.
"We performed a successful stereotactic laser ablation on a 22-year-old presenting with medically intractable seizures," said Paul J. Camarata, M.D., associate professor and chairman of vascular and skull base neurosurgery. accuracy, provide this life-changing treatment to our patient and improve her quality of life. The patient is still seizure-free at three months," said Camarata.
The ClearPoint System technology enables minimally-invasive neurosurgery under continuous MRI guidance, offering surgeons real-time direction and a direct view of the inside of a patient's brain during a procedure. MRI provides superior visualization of the brain's tissue compared to other imaging technologies.
