Providers looking for vendors with industry expertise, data aggregation capabilities

March 31, 2015 — A new KLAS report on business intelligence (BI) found that healthcare organizations are looking for BI vendors with industry expertise and content to handle the growing complexities of data management. The report — entitled Health Analytics 2015: Moving toward the Continuum of Care — stresses that in-organization data is only a part of the picture and that data aggregation capabilities are more important than ever before.

"While providers' choices for vendor products and platforms are broad, some key trends are forming," said report author Joe Van De Graaff. "Among these are a notable gap of healthcare expertise among BI vendors, increased complexity in data aggregation and a heightened call for analytics solutions for the continuum of care. The search is on for the vendor who can deliver."

This report highlights providers' perceptions/consideration of vendors seen as having or providing potential go-forward solutions in one or more of these areas. Vendors discussed in this study include cross-industry vendors (i.e. IBM, Microsoft, Qlik, Oracle, SAP, Tableau), large healthcare IT (electronic medical record) vendors (i.e. Allscripts, Cerner, Epic, McKesson) and healthcare niche vendors (i.e. Advisory Board, Explorys, Health Catalyst, Optum, Premier, and Truven Health Analytics).
