Governor Jan Brewer has signed Arizona's breast density inform bill into law (SB 1225). The legislation was introduced at the request of diagnostic radiologist Nicole B. Saphier, M.D. Arizona becomes the 15th state to enact and raises to 50 percent the number of American women living in states with mandatory breast density notification. States with pending legislation include Colo., Del., Ky., Mass., Mich., Mo. and R.I.
On the federal regulatory level, a Breast Density Reporting amendment to the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) is scheduled to be issued as a "Notice of Proposed Rulemaking" in 2014. On the federal legislative front, Reps. DeLauro (Conn.) and Israel (N.Y.) have introduced the Breast Density and Mammography Reporting Act of 2013 (HR 3404).
State laws in order of enactment include Conn., Texas, Va., N.Y., Calif., Hawaii, Md., Tenn., Ala., Nev., Ore., N.C., Pa., N.J. and Ariz.
