January 20, 2014 — Sony Electronics’ Medical Systems Division demonstrated its latest developments in 4K and 3D imaging technologies designed to re-shape visualization, training and education for a range of medical applications. A 4K professional 65-inch display, a 3D LCD secondary screen and OLED display were displayed at the 2013 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) meeting.
3D
Sony’s 3D medical display line includes 24- and 32-inch LMD-2451MT displays. At RSNA, Sony’s 24-inch version was featured as a secondary monitor for 3D review of interventional procedures done by GE Healthcare on a GE Vivid E9 cardiac ultrasound scanner.
“For medical applications, the Sony 3D medical display significantly enhances depth perception and helps improve visualization of anatomical structures, letting us see details in new ways than we could have ever seen with a traditional monitor,” said Al Lojewski, GM of Cardiovascular Ultrasound at GE Healthcare.
4K New Technologies
At RSNA, Sony used a 65-inch Pro BRAVIA 4K professional display to show 4K footage recently captured on the Sony F55 camera at the Anatomy Lab of the Duke School of Medicine. The display includes a feature to create a “quad-split” simultaneous view of four independent HD signals of different angles.
OLED
Sony’s OLED display technology features high quality color reproduction, high resolution and quick motion display. The monitor incorporates Sony’s TRIMASTER EL (electroluminescence) technology to achieve pure black. Detailed color reproduction is intended to aid healthcare professionals in observing subtle details such as faint color differences between tissues and blood vessels.
