Report from IHS analyzes global market and projected growth in storage needs for healthcare data

October 8, 2013 — An IHS report placed Carestream Health in the top three of the world’s largest suppliers of vendor-neutral archiving (VNA) solutions. According to the report, Carestream is the only one of the four worldwide leading VNA vendors that services all major geographic regions (the Americas, Emerging Markets and Asia/Pacific).

“Healthcare providers around the world view onsite vendor-neutral archiving platforms as a reliable solution that can simplify data management and enables secure information sharing across multiple locations or users,” said Cristine Kao, global marketing director for Healthcare Information Solutions, Carestream, “In addition to helping equip clinicians with a comprehensive view of patient clinical information, cloud-based archiving can simplify and consolidate storage resources to help reduce costs and enhance workflow by reducing departmental silos of clinical information.”

This independent report confirmed that non-hosted VNA models continue to be dominant in the world market and predicted cross-enterprise document sharing (XDS) to be a growing trend over time.

The report identifies these minimum key features of VNA:

According to the report, VNA storage worldwide is expected to grow 48 percent, compounded annually, from 2011 to 2017. The data management, disaster recovery, communications and security benefits of VNA are expected to increase use of this technology and make it the preferred storage platform for medical imaging.
