Matakina launched latest version of Volpara Imaging Software

Matakina Internation Volpara Imaging Software 1.5.7 RSNA 2012

December 5, 2012 — Matakina International announced the launch of Volpara Imaging Software 1.5.7, which expands the number of digital mammography systems on which the mammography reporting software can be used to offer objective breast density measurements to include Fuji, Philips, IMS Giotto and Medi-Future in addition to processing mammography studies acquired on GE, Hologic, Siemens digital mammography systems. The company showcased the new software package at the 98th Annual Meeting of the Radiology Society of North America, Nov. 25-30, 2012.

Cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), HealthCanada, the TGA and CE-marked, Volpara is in use at sites across the globe helping radiologists assess breast density more objectively and helping them better consider who might benefit from additional screening. Those installations include major Hologic sites such as Reading Hospital and Medical Center in West Reading, Penn., GE sites such as Boca Raton Radiology in Boca Raton, Fla., Siemens sites such as El Camino Hospital, in Mountain View, Calif., and soon Fuji and Philips.

“Our Center is committed to informing our patients of their breast density at the time of their screening mammography. With eight breast radiologists we believe it mandatory that we standardize the quantification of breast density. We have found Volpara to decrease inter and intraobserver variation in breast density determination thereby optimizing the care of our patients,” said Kathy Schilling, M.D., radiologist at Boca Raton, Fla., who has GE mammography systems.

Volpara is a reliable tool that automatically generates objective, measurement of volumetric breast density values under the Volpara Density Grade (VDG) — refined grading system which correlates with the American College of Radiology BIRADS Density Grading Classifications. Volpara is FDA cleared for all digital mammography units, and integration with other digital mammography systems, CAD systems and mammography reporting system are also underway.
