Vue RIS One of First to be Certified as Both Complete EHR and EHR Module for U.S. Meaningful Use Requirements

November 25 — Carestream showed the latest enhancements to its Vue RIS including the storage and tracking of radiation dose information at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) tradeshow.

“We are laying the groundwork to support cumulative dose tracking, which is an important patient care initiative worldwide,” said Cristine Kao, Carestream’s Global Marketing Manager for Healthcare Information Solutions. “Our RIS tracks and displays dose history by capturing exposure information from the modality. In the future we will be able to allow physicists at user sites to enter formulas that can be used to calculate dose and ultimately track cumulative dose for each patient.”

Carestream’s Vue RIS is one of the first RIS platforms to be certified as both a complete EHR for eligible providers and an EHR module for hospitals. The complete EHR certification means that imaging centers, radiologists, orthopedists and other eligible professionals with a Vue RIS do not need to purchase an EMR to capture and report data required to satisfy Stage 1 requirements.

In addition to collecting or tracking receipt of required Stage 1 data (including an active patient medication list and a number of ambulatory clinical quality measures) Carestream’s Vue RIS provides: embedded voice recognition; critical results reporting; and centralized patient scheduling and management reports that track patient referrals by physician and modality reading by each radiologist. RIS management tools provide profitability rates for each modality, patient wait times and volumes by modality or location, and the ability to examine imaging workflows to eliminate bottlenecks or unnecessary tasks.

A native ACR peer review feature tracks review of an original diagnosis by a second radiologist and meets requirements set by the American College of Radiology (ACR). It also provides specialized auditing/tracking functions for mammography exams that enable organizations to become Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) certified without the need for a separate mammography information system.

Carestream Health will display its latest medical imaging and healthcare IT solutions at Booth #2636 in the South Building Hall A as part of the tradeshow conducted concurrently with the RSNA meeting.
