Digital OR system helps integrate imaging and video management

October 29, 2012 — Brainlab released Buzz Digital OR, which is designed to aid information integration for the surgical suite. Buzz encompasses a spectrum, from pure DICOM viewing to complete digital operating room (OR) functionality, including video management and documentation at the touch of a finger, or two.

IP-centric, software-centric, workflow-centric and patient-centric, Buzz Digital OR bundles robust hardware and sophisticated software together in a sleek, modern design. At its core is a 42-inch display with an ultra-slim multi-touch interface that displays images in full HD. This computer- and IP-based system allows users to connect with a multitude of video signals and route content to multiple, full-HD displays.

“Buzz Digital OR is a highly advanced surgical device, tailored to meet the specific needs of the surgical environment,” said Stefan Vilsmeier, president and CEO of Brainlab. “We understand and embrace the trend of fusing medical devices and IT systems inside healthcare facilities, as this allows for intelligent, scalable and flexible OR integration solutions. We expect that hospitals and surgeons are going to reap untold benefits by installing Buzz systems, and will offer new possibilities in data flow and patient care.”

Buzz Digital OR effectively manages advanced OR workflow — facilitating planning, navigation and intraoperative imaging connectivity. The newly designed control concept for Buzz enables intuitive management of data sources and displays with drag-and-drop functionality. Fast and easy access to medical image data is provided through the integrated interactive DICOM viewer. Procedures can be conveniently documented with screenshots or dual channel recording.

“Buzz Digital OR has been designed from the ground up and incorporates key customer feedback based on the success of the Digital Lightbox,” said Stephan Holl, chief operating officer of Brainlab. “We can now offer intelligent software algorithms to create a system that can run any and all data across the hospital IP network. In addition, user experience is heightened with features like the practical touch interface, convenient home button, integrated sound system, webcam, microphone and industrial grade components built to last.”

The Buzz Digital OR is available in either “on-wall” or “in-wall” configurations.
