May 9, 2012 — Philips is bringing its newest computed tomography (CT) to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., home to the area’s only Level II trauma center.

Clinicians care for more than 9,000 trauma victims every year at St. Francis Hospital’s George T. Whalen Family Trauma Center, making it the busiest Level II trauma center in the state. Whether by ambulance or helicopter, patients are constantly coming into the facility, which means a high demand for diagnostic imaging. The solution for St. Francis was Philips’ Ingenuity CT combined with the ability to access 3-D advanced visualization of images on virtually any computer with IntelliSpace Portal.

“IntelliSpace allows us to improve workflow in a variety of ways,” said Bob Zarelli, administrative director of radiology, St. Francis Hospital. “For example, we can pre-process difficult angiography studies from the detailed images Ingenuity provides. For stroke patients, access to brain perfusion maps can now be available anywhere throughout the hospital instead of relying on one workstation located in the radiology department. We also feel the Ingenuity scanner itself was designed with workflow in mind and that’s especially important to us in the emergency department.”

St. Francis Hospital has the only Philips 128 slice scanner in the region. It is equipped with iDose4, an advanced iterative reconstruction technique, to help manage dose without sacrificing image quality.
