March 7, 2012 — Covidien announced the global launch of the Optivantage dual-head computed tomography (CT) contrast media delivery system with simultaneous injection. The product was introduced at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2012 meeting in Vienna, Austria.
The Optivantage injector with simultaneous injection, along with existing features like the Optibolus bolus shaping software and the ability of the injector to use proprietary prefilled syringe technology, enhances the company’s focus on patient care and hygiene in contrast media delivery.
“The Optivantage injector with simultaneous injection has the capability to deliver dual injection protocols of contrast media and saline, allowing technicians additional programming flexibility during scans,” said Stefano Copetti, product manager of imaging devices at Covidien.
Simultaneous injection and prefilled syringes offer technicians flexibility: the syringes also help minimize the risk of contamination from filling empty syringes, and Optibolus software delivers contrast media at a decelerating exponential rate compared to the standard constant rate of uniphasic injections.
