Riverain OnGuard Improves Detection of Lung Cancer

Riverain’s OnGuard chest X-ray computer-aided detection (CAD) software helps identify nodules that may be early-stage lung cancer. The technology uses pattern recognition and machine learning techniques to identify areas on a chest X-ray that may be lung cancer. The region of interest is identified by placing a circle around the area for the radiologist to review.

The newest U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved version offers good marking capabilities with a 73 percent reduction in false positives and 50 percent relative improvement in sensitivity.

The OnGuard software was featured at RSNA 2011.
