September 16, 2011 — Mindray Medical International announced the introduction of its new DP-50 ultrasound system in the United States. The black and white portable unit provides high imaging quality in a compact system and is designed for use in numerous specialty markets.

The system is highly suited for a wide array of clinical applications including fetal, abdominal, pediatric, small organ, neonatal/adult cephalic, musculoskeletal, cardiac (pediatric) and peripheral vascular exams. It provides a wealth of advanced imaging features, including dynamic beam formation, iBeam spatial compounding, iClear speckle reduction, tissue harmonic and tissue specific imaging.

Several of the features are found on premium systems. iZoom enables image viewing from a longer distance by increasing the size of the clinical image display area on the screen, while iTouch provides single button image optimization. iStation offers onboard reporting while IMT gives the user auto-measurement of the carotid intimae-thickness.

The system has an on-board imaging archive for more than 100,000 still images. With a 15-inch, high definition LCD tilt display, the battery life is approximately 120 minutes.

Advanced transducer technology supports optimized images for different body types and target organs. The DP-50 family includes highly sensitive wideband transducers with up to four imaging frequencies in each device. Imaging can be done from two to ten megahertz (MHz) at up to a 140-degree scanning angle. The system is also upgradeable as new advances occur.
