June 20, 2008 - Tangent Inc. released a new Medix 1700SF computer, a lightweight, 17-inch, all-in-one, point-of-care PC that meets certifications for patient safety, is designed to withstand a harsh patient care environment.

Called the Medix 1700SF, the new thin silhouette touch-screen PC features UL6061-1 and EN60601-1 certification for patient safety and allows safe placement close to patient in an ER or OR application, as a bedside terminal on a swing-arms, or for nursing carts. The company said its lightweight, ultra-low power consumption and 12VDC operation make it ideal for nursing carts and all point-of-care locations.

The Medix 1700SF has an anti-bacterial plastic housing, and an IP65 rating for dust-free and waterproof operation. The LCD and sealed ports are designed to resist spills and water damage. It also has a screen and housing built to withstand regular use of disinfecting cleaners.

Its fan less operation provides a dust-free operation and makes it easier to clean using a 10 percent bleach/water disinfectant solution.

The Medix 1700’s uses an Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processor. Other features include three serial ports to allow connections to other equipment, VESA mount compliance, up to 2GB DDR2 SDRAM and two DDR2 DIMM sockets, 80GB 2.5” SATA hard drive with an anti-vibration mechanism, integrated 10/100/1000 Gbit LAN, and a medical grade external power supply.

The Medix1700SF weighs 15.2 pounds, making it light enough for cart-based applications. It also comes with a shock-absorbing HDD mounting system to absorb impacts in cart applications
