Jan. 18, 2007 - Polymer Solutions Inc.’s team of scientists led the research and development activities that created an advanced polymer wound care bandage that stays moist for multiple days and is absolutely non-stick. The concept of this technology, TheraGauze, originated with Dr. Guy Levy, founder of Soluble Systems LLC, a Virginia company.

TheraGauze may help heal military casualties faster and with less pain. Faster because the hydrogel polymer acts like a molecular pump to infuse water, saline, or medicaments into a wound site while also acting like a molecular sponge to remove wound site exudates. Less pain because the dressing can be left in place longer, the moisture control quiets nerve function, and because of the non-stick feature will not disturb the wound bed. TheraGauze will improve the treatment of severe wounds, burns and amputations suffered by the Armed Forces.

Researchers at Polymer Solutions Inc., located in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center developed a composition of matter, based on acrylic monomers, to create a bright white-colored, tasteless and odorless hydrogel polymer. The US and foreign patents for this technology are held by Soluble Systems LLC.
