August 16, 2007 — Allscripts announced its partnership with Medical Reimbursement Services Inc. (MRSI), an emergency department (ED) coding and reimbursement company.

The ED reimbursement environment has complex and changing rules that dramatically affect revenue capture. MRSI has developed content and software that enables consistent optimized reimbursement for both facilities and physicians, according to manufacturer. This content will be used to enhance Allscripts HealthMatics ED.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Physicians Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) went live on July 1, and CMS will be paying bonus payments to providers that report an 80% minimum threshold for defined quality measures.

The MRSI alliance reportedly allows HealthMatics ED to quickly integrate the CMS-designated PQRI measures with MRSI’s tested algorithms that are easy to use for the clinician end user. MRSI will continue to provide enhancements to HealthMatics ED’s core content, and assure reliable optimal revenue capture as the reimbursement rules change.

By integrating MRSI’s content into HealthMatics ED, Allscripts will reportedly provide its customers an average potential revenue capture of more than $25 per visit, which equates to over $1 million in additional recurring revenue annually for a typical 40,000 annual volume emergency department.
