New Ultrasound System Designed for Ultrasound-Guided Surgery

November 15, 2010 — Recently introduced were the Flex Focus 700, an ultrasound system designed primarily for ultrasound-guided surgical procedures in the operating room, and the BK Power Pack, which is a full back-up power solution for the Flex Focus family of ultrasound systems. It provides cordless imaging for up to four hours.

The Flex Focus 700 system, from BK Medical, a wholly owned subsidiary of Analogic Corp., is designed to move effortlessly around the operating room. Its high-resolution, 19-inch monitor displays sharp laparoscopic, intraoperative and percutaneous images with precise detail. It is the first fully configured ultrasound system to feature a powerful, full back-up power solution, which the company believes will improve overall departmental efficiency as well as reduce patient wait times.

The BK Power Pack significantly enhances the value of the Flex Focus ultrasound system in the surgical suite by providing clinicians the freedom to attend to their patients with no downtime between procedures. The fully charged BK Power Pack provides approximately four hours of continuous operation and three hours of uninterrupted scanning time, which includes both scanning and freezing during each patient exam. As a result, the power pack enables the Flex Focus ultrasound systems to be unplugged and easily moved between patients or among imaging rooms without interruption to scanning or procedure time.

The BK Power Pack can be charged while the ultrasound system is plugged in or with a separate charging station in less than three hours. In addition, the power-save mode conserves battery power and increases battery life when not in use. When the system is placed in instant-on mode, it immediately changes from power-save to active mode. The system also features a unique continuous power display that shows physicians and technicians the residual time left to scan, even when the system is turned off. When needed, changing the battery is easy and may be performed during an ultrasound procedure.
