September 30, 2010 — October 1, a special opening bell ceremony at the NASDAQ Stock Exchange will take place to mark the start of breast cancer awareness month.
Rob Cascella, CEO and president of Hologic Inc., a developer, manufacturer and supplier of diagnostic products, medical imaging systems and surgical products dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of women, will preside over the ceremony. The event is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m. (ET).
Cascella will speak to the importance of empowering women to make their health a priority in order to reduce the number of women impacted by treatable diseases, such as breast cancer. In addition to its current systems and workstations for breast cancer screening and diagnosis, Hologic also has been working on new technologies, including the development of breast tomosynthesis — fast, high-quality 3-D imaging of the breast.
Hologic has a “Promise to Me” initiative, which was first announced at the NASDAQ opening bell ceremony for breast cancer awareness month in 2009. It is aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of breast and cervical cancer screening and osteoporosis assessment, as well as empowering women to take ownership of their health, starting with scheduling an annual mammogram, bone density or annual gynecologic exam.
