Gamma-Guided Breast Biopsy System Cleared by FDA

December 22, 2009 – The FDA has granted 510(k) clearance to a lesion-localization system for molecular imaging biopsy guidance. The GammaLoc (GL) is a complementary technology to Dilon Diagnostics’ 6800 Gamma Camera.

The GL system will help doctors accurately locate breast lesions and enable gamma-guided biopsies. The system utilizes a CorreLocator paddle and a StereoView imaging collimator system - a technique similar to that used in stereotactic X-ray localization. The GammaLoc software calculates the specific location of the suspect lesion. The compact design allows for breast biopsies with better patient comfort and better portability.
