July 29, 2009 – Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc’s Aquilion ONE was named a Gold winner in the Medical Design Excellence Awards, an award organized by Canon Communications and sponsored by the company’s Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry magazine. The world’s first dynamic volume CT system received a Gold award in the Radiological and Electromechanical Devices category. The Medical Design Excellence Awards are the premier awards for the medical technology industry.

The Medical Design Excellence Awards were created to recognize the achievement of medical device manufacturers, their suppliers and the many people behind the scenes - engineers, scientists, designers, and clinicians - who are responsible for creating innovative products that are changing the face of healthcare. MDEA-winning entries excel in the areas of product innovation, design and engineering achievement, end-user benefit, and cost-effectiveness in manufacturing and healthcare delivery.

Developed by Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation, the Aquilion ONE dynamic volume CT is the only medical imaging system that can image an entire organ like the brain or heart in one rotation, and show real-time function, including blood flow and movement, in less time than traditional multi-detector row CT systems. It also uses less radiation than traditional multi-detector row CT systems and allows for imaging with limited-to-no patient sedation.
