June 10, 2009 - Merge Healthcare today released MergeCOM-3 version 4.0, which incorporates the latest updates to the DICOM standard, as well as new interfacing capabilities using the HL7 standard. In health IT software development, DICOM provides the standard for medical image interoperability, whereas HL7 is the standard for information interoperability. By providing both HL7 and DICOM connectivity in one toolkit, MergeCOM-3 delivers comprehensive capabilities for interoperability.

The addition of HL7 to MergeCOM-3, aims to deliver one solution for integrating products into the broader health IT network, such as connecting peripheral medical devices and systems into an electronic health record (EHR) or clinical information system (CIS).
Version 4.0 contains support for the latest DICOM standard supplements, including high definition video (Supplement 137), mammography (Supplement 125) and color MRI (Supplement 141). This new release exemplifies Merge’s commitment to consistently maintain the latest DICOM standards in its MergeCOM-3 toolkits. The HL7 Toolkit includes the HL7 v2.5.1 library along with extensive mapping capabilities, sample applications and documentation. All toolkits are available on C#/.NET and Java programming platforms with support for all Windows, Linux and Solaris operating systems.
Merge Healthcare Incorporated develops software solutions that automate healthcare data and diagnostic workflow to create a more comprehensive electronic record of the patient experience.
