April 2, 2009 - The American Society of Breast Disease, a professional medical society in the U.S. that brings together physicians and allied professionals committed to an interdisciplinary team approach to breast disease management, prevention, early detection, treatment and research, elected nine leaders in the field of breast cancer were elected to positions on the Society's Board of Directors.

Benjamin O. Anderson, professor, University of Washington, Seattle, and founder, Breast Health Global Initiative, noted that the Nominating Committee had identified a slate of exceptional candidates, who have a genuine interdisciplinary understanding of the needs and priorities of breast cancer and breast disease patients. All individuals take office at the end of the Society's 33rd Annual Meeting, April 2-4, 2009, at The Drake Hotel, Chicago, IL.

Incoming President Gail Lebovic, M.D., director of women's services at The Cooper Clinic, Dallas, TX, will succeed Julio A. Ibarra, M.D., medical director of pathology services, Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center. They will be joined by radiologist Stephen A. Feig, M.D., director of breast imaging, University of California, Irvine, as president-elect, and medical oncologist Robert Carlson, M.D., professor, Stanford University, as secretary-treasurer.

Newly elected members at large are: Anees Chagpar, M.D., University of Louisville; Dennis Holmes, M.D., University of Southern California; Jean Lynn, RN, MPH, OCN, National Cancer Institute; Seema A. Khan, M.D., Northwestern University; Coral Quiet, M.D., Arizona Breast Cancer Specialists; and Richard Reitherman, M.D. Pacific Breast MRI.
