September 5, 2008 - NexGen Medical Group is featuring the Sofia Automated Ultrasound System, its recently FDA-approved automated breast scanner, at the 28th Annual Breast Imaging Show Sept. 4-6, 2008, in Nashville, TN.
For radiologists, Sofia is said to offer full volumetric diagnostic images, significant throughput in screening patients and additional reimbursement codes for 3D tomography available per patient compared to mammography or manual ultrasound.
The system is a fully automated breast scanner that rapidly scans the entire breast at one time without operator intervention. The system produces an anatomically correct volumetric image of the breast. Due to the level of automation that will be provided by Sofia, the operator can scan both breasts, according to the manufacturer, more quickly than a technician can scan a single breast with a manual ultrasound.
The Sofia system is designed to be an effective tool in the $8 billion breast screening and diagnostic market.
