May 21, 2008 – IDC was awarded a patent for an invention that balances areas of varying density in a digital radiographic image, reportedly providing a method to improve the quality, contrast and sharpness of digital X-ray images and enhance the capability to study otherwise obscured details within a digital image.

By applying this methodology in situations like a chest X-ray, for example, where one rib is obscured by more soft tissue than another, ribs of the same density will show the same absolute brightness irrespective of the amount of obscuring material.

The inventor was issued Canadian Patent No. 2412703, and the patent has been assigned to Imaging Dynamics Co. Ltd. Calgary.

The IDC X-Series CCD-based imaging detectors: X3G, X3C and X4C represent digital alternatives to traditional film-based X-ray for each level of healthcare that IDC currently serves.

The new technology reportedly provides higher sensitivity and amplified dynamic range and antiblooming for better image quality, reduced distortion and very low noise. The detectors also feature lateral overflow drain to eliminate saturation artifacts and enhanced soft tissue imaging without compromising bone detail.
