November 8, 2007 – GE Healthcare IITS recently hosted the Centricity Healthcare Community Media Day at its Barrington, IL facility, in which GE officials presented on a variety of topics concerning IT solutions and the future of healthcare, as well as guiding the media through its new Centricity Tour.

Vishal Wanchoo, CEO, GE Healthcare IITS, opened the meeting with a presentation on IT solutions, including wellness and disease management and the role IT plays in turning information into insight, increasing transparency and quality of cost, and increasing equity in healthcare. Wanchoo expressed the importance of measuring a patients “health span” as opposed to lifespan, explaining that a long life lived out in pain and poor health is not as desirable as a long life lived in good health.

Marc Probst, CIO, Intermountain Healthcare in Utah, gave an in-depth report on how Intermountain Healthcare and GE are partnering to create the next generation of electronic medical record and IT solutions.

Members of the media were also given a presentation by Mark Morita, Marketing Manager, Disruptive Technologies, who showed off many innovative ideas in image and data management, including portable PC’s with Centricity, touch-less viewers and other technologies, some of which will be on display at RSNA 2007.

The tour consisted of walking viewers through an interactive production explaining the Centricity Healthcare Community and its components in the following areas:
-At Home: Pre-arrival exchange of information to keep records up to date.
-Check–In: Check-in process runs smoothly with efficient workflow from exam room to checkout.
-ER: The patient’s history is on hand for emergency staff, reportedly enabling well-informed and compassionate care.
-Imaging: Imaging management solutions.
-Surgical: Perioperative software automates nursing and anesthesia documentation and surgical services management. Seamless connectivity through all care areas provides access to patient information at the point of decision.
-Checkout: Technology helps hospitals achieve higher productivity, fast payments and decreased costs.
