October 29, 2007 - Philips unveiled its next-generation, work-in-progress large bore PET/CT based on the Philips GEMINI TF PET/CT, with time-of-flight technology and Brilliance CT Big Bore systems, at the meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) held Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, 2007, in Los Angeles, CA.
The Philips Big Bore PET/CT is designed to provide the positioning accuracy, positioning flexibility and workflow synchronization needed in radiation oncology. To increase positioning accuracy, the system will reportedly incorporate a new, indexed 53-centimeter flat table that complies with the American Association of Physicists in Medicine’s (AAPM’s) Task Group No. 66 guidelines for quality assurance. No commercially available PET/CT currently complies with these guidelines, according to the company.
The system also features an 85-centimeter bore diameter for both PET and CT subsystems, allowing patients to be imaged without compromising position. The Big Bore PET/CT will also feature CT and PET/CT simulation protocols, respiratory gating features and connectivity capabilities required in radiation oncology.
