October 26, 2007 - Bionix Radiation Therapy will introduce the Prone Breast System that utilizes prone positioning for breast treatment to deliver less irradiation to the lung, cardiac tissue and contralateral breast, at ASTRO, Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, 2007.

Gravity is utilized to separate cancerous masses from surrounding lung and cardiac tissue and for greater reproducibility of the breast being treated.

The foam design, which cradles the patient during the treatment cycle, reportedly enhances patient comfort. The Prone Breast System features an indexing, massage style face cushion with openings for air flow, a reversible breast bridge cushion with a carbon fiber support that holds the contralateral breast out of the treatment field and a tailored leg cushion to support the patient from the waste down.
