May 1, 2007 - Washington Hospital today announced that it is the first in the U.S. to receive shipment and install the new Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion, a noninvasive device for the treatment of brain disorders.
The device reportedly delivers doses of focused radiation without making a single cut to reach the deepest brain tumors while sparing surrounding tissue. The device can reportedly also treat additional disorders, such as brain metastases, vascular malformations, trigeminal neuralgia, epilepsy and Parkinson's disease.
