July 10, 2008 - Boston Scientific Corp. this week launched its Atlantis .018 Peripheral Imaging Catheter, which reportedly brings existing 40 MHz coronary standard ultrasound imaging resolution to peripheral interventions.
The company said the product is available for immediately release in the U.S.
Until now, an intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) catheter was not available for peripheral vessels smaller than 8 mm, the company said. But with this smaller sized catheter, Boston Scientific said physicians can expand the level of care and address a broader range of small peripheral vessels.
The company’s iLab Ultrasound Imaging System, which was launched in May 2006, enables physicians to see images inside the heart and vessels to assist with diagnosis. The maker said one of the key benefits of IVUS is to offer a 360-degree view of the vessel wall from the inside, allowing a more complete and accurate assessment of the diseased vessel than is possible with angiography alone.
