Trends and New Technology in Cardiovascular Ultrasound at ASE 2014

There were several new cardiovascular ultrasound technology advances highlighted at the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) annual meeting June 20-24 in Portland, Ore. Among these was the first commercial software released to analyze vector flow imaging, a possible new way to help with early diagnoses of some types of cardiovascular disease prior to symptoms developing. Another technology of note was high-resolution 3-D reconstructions of vascular plaques and any associated angiogenesis vasa vasorum, which could be a new way to noninvasively identify vulnerable plaque.

To see examples of these and other new technologies at ASE, watch the video Editor’s Choice of Most Innovative Technology at ASE 2014.

Trends in cardiovascular ultrasound discussed at ASE included whether 3-D echo is ready for mainstream daily use, and the expansion of interventional echo and echo’s use to evaluate patients being treated for cancer. Watch the video interview with ASE Past-President James Thomas, M.D., on the trends discussed at ASE 2014.

Below are some of the news items and late-breaking studies released at ASE 2014.
