Wolfe Tory Medical Inc., the manufacturer of AbViser AutoValve Intra-Abdominal Pressure (IAP) monitoring devices, has incorporated a white stripe on all the AbViser tubing used for measuring IAP.
This change is in response to The Joint Commission 2006 Sentinel Event Alert regarding tubing misconnections and the potential for errors. The new white stripe reportedly allows the clinician to identify the tubing in the AbViser IAP Monitoring kit, reducing chances of a mishap. Tubing misconnections have become a failure mode for hospital mishaps causing injury to patients.
