Imaging Technology News (ITN) recently took home top honors for best technical content for its team coverage of the topic of gadolinium, which included a combination of print, video and social media, at the Jesse H. Neal Awards in New York City. The Neal Awards, sponsored by Connectiv, a division of the Software and Information Industry Association, are recognized as the Pulitzer Prize of the business press. The winners are selected for exhibiting journalistic enterprise, service to the industry and editorial craftsmanship. This is the third year in a row ITN was recognized as a finalist in this competition.

ITN Editor Dave Fornell, Editorial Director Melinda Taschetta-Millane and Associate Editor Jeff Zagoudis, who also produce ITN’s sister cardiology publication Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiology (DAIC), won the Neal Award for their coverage of gadolinium, which included the article “The Debate Over Gadolinium MRI Contrast Toxicity.” The article, posted on both ITN and DAIC websites, explains the issues involved in patient claims that gadolinium-based magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents may be causing health issues.

The article has had more than 121,000 pageviews since it was posted last year. The award recognized the use of search engine optimization (SEO) to boost the article ranking on Google searches for this topic and for its links to several staff-produced videos with MRI thought leaders and related articles on the subject. ITN was named a finalist in two other Neal categories, including best contributed column series and best work by a single author for ITN and DAIC Contributing Editor Greg Freiherr.

ITN was also named National Cross-platform Package of the Year Honorable Mention for its cross-platform coverage of Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital’s Mobile Stroke Unit from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) for its 2019 Azbees Awards of Excellence.
