September 7, 2007 - Varian Medical Systems is demonstrating its full range of technologies and products aimed at improving the speed and precision of radiotherapy at the 2007 European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) meeting in Barcelona, Spain, Sept. 8 to Sept. 13, 2007.
Among the new product introductions on show will be the Smart Segmentation feature for Varian's Eclipse treatment planning system. Smart Segmentation is reportedly the world's first fully automatic software tool that identifies and outlines organs and other structures of interest within diagnostic images of the thorax and male pelvis.
Varian will also be discussing the new high-definition multi-leaf collimator (HD120 MLC). This high-definition collimator, with increased resolution utilizing smaller leaves, will be available with the company's Trilogy Tx medical linear accelerator and addresses the unique needs of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT).
