Growing Kansas City Radiology Practice Finds Technology Partner in Intelerad

A Kansas City radiology practice leverages a growing suite of Intelerad solutions, prompted by the premium support, service and expertise that accompanies Intelerad’s leading-edge technology.

About United Imaging Consultants

United Imaging Consultants LLC (UIC) has a 30-year history of providing radiology services in the Kansas City area. With 32 board-certified radiologists, UIC provides reading services for an ever-expanding list of facilities, including nine hospitals in Kansas and Missouri and an imaging center in Kansas. The practice provides sub-specialty readings and 24/7 radiology service.

Intelerad Impresses with Superior Technology, Radiology Market Expertise

To facilitate its continued growth while providing high-quality patient care, UIC relies on technology solutions to streamline operations and enrich its service offerings. The practice continually seeks new and better ways to improve its business and the quality of patient care. In 2006, UIC adopted IntelePACS, the KLAS Ambulatory category leader picture archiving and communication system (PACS) solution from Intelerad.

The adoption of IntelePACS marked the beginning of what has become a very fruitful relationship with Intelerad. In addition to acquiring a powerful technology that yields operational business benefits, the practice has gained a technology partner with extensive expertise in its field. “Intelerad goes above and beyond to deliver solutions that meet our needs as a customer,” says Matt Reusch, director of information technology for UIC. “They deliver on promises and always exceed expectations.”

UIC CEO Ed Moore appreciates Intelerad’s focus on the customer. “Intelerad’s culture is very customer-centric; customers play integral roles in the company’s intensive R&D processes,” he says.

Premier Service and Support Lead to Expanded Partnership, Fuel Continued Growth

In the six years since adopting IntelePACS, UIC’s business has grown considerably. The scalability of Intelerad’s technology was a key factor that cemented the partnership. “We haven’t always been as large as we are today,” says Moore. “Intelerad technology has allowed us to expand without changing software. We haven’t had to miss a beat.”

The confidence inspired by IntelePACS’ superior technology, coupled with Intelerad’s premier service and support, led UIC management to expand its Intelerad technology base with the adoption of the InteleOne distributed radiology solution.

Unified Reading Environment Facilitates Sub-Specialization and 24/7 Services

When the facilities served by a practice use different technology systems, there is wasteful and unnecessary overhead for radiologists, who must constantly switch between the multiple systems. With its unique ability to link patient data from disparate PACS, hospital information systems (HIS) and radiology information systems (RIS), InteleOne solves this key problem for UIC.

UIC embraced InteleOne as the solution that would enable the growing practice to continue providing high-quality, sub-specialty reads for any patient, regardless of location, in a much more efficient way. InteleOne provides a single, unified reading and reporting environment that streamlines medical imaging workflows.

With InteleOne, Moore says, “We can deliver the right specialist, for the right hospital, at the right time.” This technology infrastructure also enables UIC to efficiently provide 24/7 reading services for any facility that requires it.

Faster Turnaround, Higher Productivity with InteleOne

With InteleOne providing seamless access to all studies, including priors, regardless of location, radiologist productivity increases. Moore notes that by removing the need for radiologists to manage multiple systems, InteleOne enables faster report turnaround time. The system also provides referring physicians better access to the data that they need, enabling higher levels of patient care.

“As you look at a large system like ours that is spread out over a geographic area,” says Moore, “InteleOne enables us to be the one radiology group covering everything and providing the best possible service to the patients.”

New RIS Solution Presents Integrated, Single-Vendor Option

This practice’s expanded leverage of Intelerad technology did not end with the adoption of InteleOne. In late 2011, Intelerad announced a new radiology information system (RIS) product, InteleRIS. This new product, combined with IntelePACS, offers an integrated, single-vendor solution called InteleSuite.

UIC became the first U.S.-based InteleRIS customer, eager to reap the benefits of the powerful new solution. Moore anticipates great benefit to his organization with the comprehensive feature set of the seamlessly integrated Intelerad RIS and PACS. This includes efficient scheduling and registration, intuitive workflows using automation, and enhanced visibility of operations with integrated business analytics.

InteleSuite Promises Optimized Resource Utilization, Increased Profitability

Moore is delighted to have a new, single-vendor RIS/PACS option from a company with such a proven track record for performance, usability and client service. “Intelerad knows the business of radiology and demonstrates an understanding of the ever-evolving needs of the healthcare provider,” he says.

Moore is confident that InteleSuite will deliver the business benefits that have eluded other vendors’ RIS/PACS offerings in the past. He can leverage a truly integrated, single-vendor RIS/PACS to facilitate optimal resource utilization and volume throughput of patients and imaging. This will increase service levels and referring physician satisfaction, leading to increased revenues and profitability, while enhancing care for the patients UIC serves.
