February 2, 2010 - Key to any purchase of capital equipment is maintenance and in a busy hospital setting that may require protecting X-ray panels from scratches and smudges.

A new product is designed to protect the Carestream DRX-1 portable DR panel from damage while doing standing weight-bearing X-ray images of the feet. The DRX-1 Panel Protector is placed over the DRX-1 panel when capturing standing feet images – AP view. The protector keeps the weight off the DR panel, preventing extreme stresses on the DR panel, which often lead to serious damage.

The faceplate is made of unbreakable polycarbonate designed to upport patients weighing up to 450 pounds. The device is X-ray lucent, allowing the X-rays to pass through the DRX-1 Panel Protector with no
significant absorption or scattering.

The manufacturer of the panel protector, Clear Image Devices LLC, also makes panel protectors for all CR systems as well as DR systems offered by Canon, Philips, Varian, Siemens, Shimadzu, and Trixell. The price is $587.
