June 25, 2023 — Julie Dawn Bolin, MS, CNMT, program director of nuclear medicine technology at GateWay Community College in Phoenix, Arizona, and nuclear medicine technologist at Banner Staffing Services in Tucson, Arizona, has been elected 2023-24 president-elect for the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technologist Section (SNMMI-TS). The new slate of officers was introduced during the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging’s 2023 Annual Meeting, held June 24-27.

“I and am very passionate about supporting the nuclear medicine technologist profession through advocacy and volunteerism. As an educator and clinical technologist, I believe that advocacy, education and professional development are central to combating complacency, cultivating engagement and improving patient care standards,” stated Bolin.

As president-elect of the SNMMI-TS, Bolin’s priorities include educating high school and college students about careers and opportunities for nuclear medicine technologists and collaborating with molecular imaging and therapy professionals to develop traditional and continuing education materials that reflect the new diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy landscape. She will also focus on improving the experience for nuclear medicine professionals who are searching the SNMMI website for advocacy, education and/or professional development.

Bolin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biological science from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri. She received her certificate in nuclear medicine technology from the Research Medical Center School of Nuclear Medicine Technology in Kansas City, Missouri, and went on to earn a master’s degree in biological science from the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Bolin began her career as a research assistant at Stoecker and Associates in Rolla, Missouri. She then moved to Arizona, where she held nuclear medicine technologist positions at Tucson Medical Center for nearly 15 years, culminating as technologist in charge, until she moved to Banner Staffing Services in 2022. Bolin has also held multiple academic posts in the Nuclear Medicine Technology program at Gateway Community College since 2007 and is currently director of the program.

An active member of SNMMI-TS and the Pacific Southwest SNMMI-TS Chapter, Bolin serves as cochair of the Educators Committee. She is also currently a member of several additional SNMMI-TS committees: the Curriculum Revision Sub-Committee, Scope of Practice Committee, Advocacy Committee (Arizona Technologist Advocacy Group member), and Professional Development Task Force. She is the Specialty Area Representative for education on the SNMMI-TS National Council of Representatives and serves as the SNMMI-TS liaison to the Association of Educators in Imaging and Radiologic Sciences. Previously, Bolin was SNMMI-TS Education Committee co-chair and contributed to the SNMMI-TS Nuclear Medicine Technology Competency-Based Curriculum Guide – 6th edition.

Bolin is an SNMMI-TS Fellow and has received the League for Innovation-League Excellence Award, the JNMT Editor’s Choice Award for best continuing education article, and the Maricopa Excellence in Teaching Program nuclear medicine technology scholarship. She has participated in the SNMI-TS Leadership Academy and Advanced Leadership Academy, as well as the Pacific Southwest Technologist Chapter Leadership Academy.

The SNMMI Technologist Section president for 2023-24 is Dmitry Beyder, CNMT, MPA, St. Louis, Missouri. Elected to leadership of SNMMI for 2023-24 were Helen Nadel, MD, FRCPC, Stanford, California, as president; Cathy Sue Cutler, PhD, FSNMMI, Upton, New York, as president-elect; and Jean-Luc C.
