December 13, 2019 — The bipartisan policy framework to address “surprise medical bills,” released by the House Ways & Means Committee, offers a renewed opportunity for lawmakers to resolve a critical issue for patients, while respecting the private market dynamics between insurance plans and providers.

“The American College of Radiology remains committed to working with Congress and other stakeholders to create a sensible “surprise billing” solution that works for patients and health care providers,” said William T. Thorwarth, M.D., FACR, chief executive officer of the ACR. “We are encouraged by the Ways and Means policy framework and believe it offers a fresh perspective to consider as policy deliberations continue in the New Year.”

The ACR will continue to work with all the relevant committees in the coming weeks to finalize a policy that protects patients and ensures they have access to robust provider networks, while also providing a fair and equitable mechanism for both providers and insurers to resolve billing disputes.
