Augmented reality capability compliments TeraRecon 3D Print Pack portal

February 21, 2017 — TeraRecon debuted its new high-performance, cloud-based augmented reality solution, the HoloPack Portal, at the 2017 Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS17) annual conference in Orlando, Fla. The HoloPack Portal extends the TeraRecon 3-D viewing to provide real 3-D image viewing using the Microsoft HoloLens visor. The system uses voice controls and finger movements in the air, so it may have application in surgery, where the surgeon can manipulate anatomical images without breaking the sterile field and glance down under the visor to continue with the procedure.  

Leveraging Microsoft’s Azure as a high-powered graphics processing unit (GPU)-enabled computing platform, the augmented reality solution is co-hosted in TeraRecon’s iNtuition Cloud along with their Within Image Analysis (WIA) platform for applied machine learning. Additionally, the HoloPack Portal uses image streaming technology optimized for superior speed and responsiveness by Seattle-based TeraRecon partner Vizua.

TeraRecon President and CEO Jeff Sorenson said the HoloPack Portal complements the company’s 3-D Print Pack portal that expands visualization even further with an in-hand, 3-D-printed medical model.
