Massachusetts’ largest health system will implement Visage 7 Enterprise Imaging Platform at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Mass General in 2019

Partners HealthCare Chooses Visage 7 for Enterprise Imaging

January 18, 2019 – Visage Imaging Inc. announced the signing of Partners HealthCare, the largest health system in Massachusetts, for implementation of the Visage 7 Enterprise Imaging Platform. Visage will be exhibiting at  the 2019 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society annual meeting (HIMSS19), Feb. 12-14 in Orlando, Fla.

Partners was founded in 1994 by Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and is the largest private employer in Massachusetts, with approximately 74,000 employees. Partners is also a national leader in biomedical and data science research, having established the MGH & BWH Center for Clinical Data Science.

The contract will see the Visage 7 Enterprise Imaging Platform implemented at Partners’ two flagship hospitals, MGH and BWH, and will expand to other Partners network hospitals in the second phase. Visage 7 is the central component of the Partners Radiology Enterprise Platform (PREP). PREP represents a key milepost for the elimination of multiple legacy picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) and the opportunity for Partners radiologists to have immediate access to all prior patient imaging anywhere across the system.

Partners institutions have all been on the same electronic health record (EHR), but until now, the radiology departments, including those at MGH and BWH, have maintained separate radiology platforms. “We are providing our radiologists with a diagnostic viewer and common radiology platform that will transform our practice and accelerate our ongoing efforts to improve the care we provide to our patients,” said Stephen Ledbetter, M.D., MPH, medical director medical imaging IT, Brigham Health. “Moving to this enterprise platform will require enhanced collaboration, but we know that it is only by working together to scale our best practices across the system that we are able to extract value and realize the full potential of this effort.”

“The new platform and our efforts to improve workflows will provide radiologists with dramatically better functionality and make it easier and more efficient for clinicians to read images and access information about their patients — whether they’re in the office or the operating room,” said Tarik K. Alkasab, M.D., Ph.D., radiology service chief of informatics and IT at MGH. “We believe that the new platform will truly elevate the ways that we use imaging in the delivery of care, and we see enormous potential for future collaboration with our radiology colleagues across the system.”

Planning for the rollout has begun with MGH and BWH scheduled to be implemented in mid-2019.
