The mobile-friendly social platform features a wide variety of networking and educational functions

Members of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists can now access the new ASRT Communities, an updated online social network that allows radiologic technologists to exchange ideas, share documents and participate in practice-related discussions.

Designed specifically for ASRT’s 153,000 members, the mobile-friendly social platform features a wide variety of networking and educational functions including a searchable ASRT member directory, collaborative discussion forums and a library of practice-related documents and shared files.

“When you have questions about professional standards, technology or regulations, the Communities allow you to tap into the knowledge and power of the entire ASRT membership,” said ASRT Chief Executive Officer Sal Martino, Ed.D., R.T.(R), FASRT, CAE. “We encourage members to log in daily and make the ASRT Communities a trusted professional circle.”

To showcase their achievements and skills, members can personalize their online profile with biographical information about their educational background, job history, honors and awards, and more. By completing their profiles, members increase their visibility in the online member directory, making it easier for their colleagues to search for them or connect through the directory’s direct messaging function. It’s another way for members to build relationships with their peers and open up lines of communication.

Members interested in engaging in in-depth dialogue about practice issues can participate on the Communities discussion forums. Each of ASRT’s 15 chapters has its own community and forum. In addition, there are communities and discussion forums for students, affiliate leaders, advocacy and governance volunteers, and imaging informatics professionals. The forums allow members to post messages, share files and access practice-related resources. Even more, members can join as many discussion forums as they like.

In addition to the new Communities, ASRT updated the My ASRT portal. The enhanced service allows members to keep track of their continuing education credits, upload CE certificates, check personal messages, print membership cards and view their order history. My ASRT also serves as an entryway to the Communities.

To recognize members’ participation in the ASRT and the Communities, members receive a series of recognition ribbons that are automatically displayed on their profiles. Ribbons are presented for a variety of contributions including  discussion forum participation, subscribing to a community, ASRT volunteer activities and donations to the ASRT Foundation.

In addition, members who participate in the Communities will be entered automatically into the Sharing is Good contest. Every month, prizes will be awarded randomly to 10 people who complete a specific action in the ASRT Communities, such as updating their profile or writing a post.
