Varian Shows Radiotherapy, Radiosurgery Range at ESTRO 2008

September 15, 2008

September 15, 2008 - Varian Medical Systems is demonstrating its full range of technologies and products aimed at improving the speed and precision of treatments at the 2008 European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden, from Sept. 14t-18.

Chief among the products on display will be Varian's new RapidArc capability, which delivers a volumetric intensity-modulated radiation therapy treatment in a single or multiple arcs of the treatment machine around the patient and makes it possible to deliver advanced image-guided IMRT two to eight times faster than is possible with conventional IMRT.

Varian will also be spotlighting the Novalis Tx linear accelerator with the new high-definition multi-leaf collimator, the HD120-MLC. Novalis Tx, the result of a collaboration between Varian Medical Systems and BrainLAB, offers radiosurgery for a wide range of intra-cranial and extra-cranial tumours and lesions. It features high dose delivery rates, which means that treatments can be delivered rapidly. Novalis Tx also offers dynamic ultra-fine beam shaping and non-invasive, highly-precise frameless patient positioning for rapid and comfortable treatments.

Along with the On-Board Imager device for clinically-practical image guided radiotherapy (IGRT), Varian will also be demonstrating its Clinac linear accelerators, Acuity imaging device for planning and simulating treatments, ARIA oncology information and image management system, Eclipse treatment planning software, advanced spot-scanning proton therapy solutions and the full range of planning and delivery tools for brachytherapy.
